went with RSL pk 3.5u +140 (betcris) for Tue night

Columbus vs Real Salt Lake
- first leg of CCL quarterfinals with winner set to face Saprissa/Olimpia victor which means MLS team will be favored to hit the finals of the CCL. :103631605

Under normal conditions this would be a tough match and series to predict but it is absolutely RSL's to lose. While RSL are the best, and most stable, team in MLS the Crew dropped a ton of guys (9 i think) in the offseason including starters GBS (top scorer with 9 goals), Hejduk, Carroll, Moffat, and Padula. The so-called "bash brothers", strikers Lenhart (2nd top scorer with 6 goals) and Gary also sent packing. They had just a 5 match preseason (1-1-3) so little time to play together and it gets worse because their top 2 keepers are injured forcing them to sign a new guy for this match while another group of starters (Gaven, Francis, O'Rourke, Duka) are injured and likely won't play. The Crew's midfield looks like some USL-2 midfield and their attackers, while impressive in other leagues, have yet to prove their worth in the MLS. In fact, really the only thing normal about Columbus is the central defense pairing which is one of the league's best.

RSL finished their preseason with a nice 2-0 win over Chivas USA and get back a bunch of guys that were injured on and off during preseason. Really the only question mark is who will partner with Saborio up front now that Findley is in England. The choices...Espindola, Paulo Campos, and Alvarez are all class because RSL likely have the deepest roster in the league. Guessing it's Espindola but so much talent there then add in the MLS' best midfield and you have a solid front 6. Columbus, on the other hand, finished their preseason getting whacked 4-2 by Houston and losing both Francis and Duka to injuires. Prior to that match Colorado beat them 2-0 so they will likely not be a confident bunch coming into the first real match of the season (finished preseason 1-1-3).

Anything can happen as it's the first real match of season columbus knows a loss here means they're out of CL as they have no chance at RSL where they're 0-0-4 1/9. While I hate betting MLS teams away from home RSL should be too experienced and too good for a young Columbus team still learning to play together.

Ah, firstly, I wanna say it's always nice to see write-ups on CONCACAF CL & MLS squads. Secondly, it's been awhile. I still browse the forums sporadically but Fall/Winter is a busy time for me & I just can't visit regularly let alone post regularly.

Ok, I totally understand your taking RSL. Crew is revamped this season and both No. 1 & 2 GK's are likely out till at least Mid-March. RSL has the deepest roster & most fluid attack of any MLS club & seem primed to capture both the Supporters Shield as well as the MLS Cup.

But I prefer the under.

Weather in Columbus has been poor & from all accounts match time is expected to be in the 20's with a slight chance of rain/sleet. Apparently, the pitch at Crew Stadium is fine, but we shall see as RSL most closely resembles a Latin team in the league.

Ray Burse was released by FCD last year and hasn't played in a season. Surprised he didn't catch on with another team as he played decent when called upon to replace the oft-injured, then first choice keeper Sala. FCD's defending wasn't so hot prior to '10. This is his audition to stick around.

Gaven is supposed to start. Duka is like to play as well. How much both play is a question.

Key pt. you made is that Marshall ( one of the better defenders in the league) & Iro are back as the central pair. Manager Warzycha is supposed to be quite high on new RB Miranda.

Espindola is likely out with an injury. Paulo Jr. will likely pair with Saborio. Also, Alvarez & Johnson have missed time due to national team commitments. Findley is not such a big loss.

Good luck to you, Roll.

also like the under as RSL set a team record with just .67 gpg allowed last year, placed 2 defenders on MLS all-11, and have the reigning defensive player of the year while cbus have great central defense pairing.

fully expect espindola to play...shown in today's RSL team notes as starting, but whether him or paulo jr, alvarez, etc doesn't matter much to me.

PROBABLE STARTERS 2/22 @ COLUMBUS
RSL (4-4-2 diamond, R  L):
GK: Rimando
DF: Russell, Olave, Borchers, Wingert;
MF: Beckerman; Grabavoy, Johnson, Morales;
FW: Saborio, Espindola

cold for sure today with game time temp around 27. it snowed pretty good in PGH last night so I'm assuming it snowed in Cbus, so time to get the plows out...

as far as Burse? hmm, not too confident in a guy that couldn't hook on to any team for an entire season but we'll see. IMO he was just the most convenient, not most talented, choice. he went to OSU and practiced with the Crew before so was easy call

probable Crew lineup via the crewxtra guy...

-------------Burse-----------
Miranda--Marshall--Iro--Gardner
------------Balchan---------
Gaven-------Ekpo-------Rogers
------Renteria----Mendoza----
